A Head of Time Ahead of Time

Hank Levy This video portrait pays tribute to jazz composer, big-band leader, and Professor Emeritus Henry J. (Hank) Levy. It swings with excerpts from recently videotaped big bands performing Hank's incredible music, often under his direction. It's generously colored with "road stories", emotional recollections and other insightful, sometimes humorous, commentary from Hank himself, as well as other jazz legends, including amongst them: Maynard Ferguson, Peter Erskine, Sal Salvador, Glen Stuart, Clem DeRosa, Bill Warfield, Paul Chiaravalle, Milcho Leviev, Fred Selden, Greg Smith and Audree Coke Kenton.

They paint Hank as an extremely talented, energetic, fun-loving, and humble genius with an innovative and inspirational spirit, a head of time, a musical soul, a heart for teaching, and a love of jazz and golf. Seems Hank was born to swing!

Hank became world famous for his revolutionary use of exotic time signatures through the recordings of the Don Ellis and Stan Kenton Orchestras.
